Vision, Values and Ethos
Our values of Nurture, Aspire, Believe and Achieve are reflected in the everyday life of Brierley Primary School. They can be seen in the relationships we build, the expectations we have for our children, the way we teach, the support we provide and the opportunities we create.
We are proud to be a family school where every child is known, valued and encouraged to succeed. At Brierley, we believe that children thrive when they feel safe, cared for, included and heard. We work hard to create an environment where everyone feels a sense of belonging and where each child is recognised as an individual. We want every child to know that they matter, that their voice is important and that they can achieve.
We are ambitious for all of our pupils. We want children to achieve beyond their starting points, widen their horizons and develop the confidence to embrace the opportunities ahead of them. Our aim is not only to help children succeed in school, but to thrive. We want them to grow into confident, respectful and resilient young people who are prepared for the next stage of their education and for life beyond Brierley.
Our Ethos
Our ethos is built upon strong relationships, high expectations, inclusion and a shared belief in the potential of every child. We recognise parents and carers as children's first educators and believe that children achieve most when school and home work together. We value the knowledge families have of their children and are committed to open communication, positive relationships and genuine partnership with our community.
Brierley is a diverse school community and we celebrate that diversity with pride. We want children to develop respect and understanding for themselves, for one another and for the wider world. We are committed to equality and inclusion and to identifying and removing barriers that may prevent children from participating fully in school life. We maintain high expectations for every pupil while providing the support, adaptations and opportunities individual children need to flourish. Our curriculum also plays an important part in this.
We want children to experience a curriculum that is ambitious, broad, balanced, inclusive and relevant. Alongside developing secure knowledge and skills, we want learning to stimulate curiosity, encourage children to ask questions and help them make connections with the world around them.
We recognise the importance of widening children's experiences and aspirations. Through educational visits, visitors, sporting and cultural opportunities, clubs, performances, leadership opportunities and practical experiences, we aim to introduce children to possibilities they may not otherwise encounter. We want to bring the world to our children while opening doors to the world beyond Brierley.
From the beginning of a child's journey with us, nurturing relationships, language-rich environments, high-quality teaching and timely support help children develop communication, confidence, independence, resilience and a love of learning.
