Our first competition of 2026 was the Crewe Netball Competition on Thursday 5^th February at Sir William Stanier School. We took 17 pupils to the event, playing in two teams and all of the players had worked tremendously hard in the practice sessions leading up to the event. Our practice had been slightly hampered by the roofing works going on at school, meaning that for 2/3 of our practice sessions, we only had half of a netball court to play on!

 

Our first match saw Brierley A pitted against Brierley B- it is always a tricky game when playing against friends but both teams gave it their all. Brierley A took the lead thanks to goals from Davood Azadmehr and Ellie Mai Entwistle, however a strong comeback from Brierley B saw them nearly sneak a draw- a goal from Ansley Wong made it a tense finish, but the A team just about hung on for a 2-1 win.

 

Brierley A were excellent in game two, winning 6-0 vs Monks Coppenhall B. Eduard Ciocoi was in red-hot form inside the D as he helped himself to 4 goals and Ellie Mai Entwistle scored 2 more to seal a commanding win. Game three saw a fantastic 3-1 win against Monks Coppenhall A- we played some really slick netball and deserved the win thanks to strong performances in the middle of the court from Sienna Boon, Marni Huskisson and Ella Wood. Goals from Eduard Ciocoi (2) and Ellie Mai Entwistle. Game four saw us contain Hungerford with strong defending from Reuben Tasker, Junior Khumone and Evie Burke, before putting our foot down and running out eventual 4-0 winners- goals from Davood Azadmehr (2), Eduard Ciocoi and Ellie Mai Entwistle.  The goals continued to flow as we were far too strong for St Michael's in game five, winning 5-0 with goals from Davood Azadmehr (4) and Marni Huskisson. Our sixth and final game saw us beat Gainsborough 3-0  with goals from Reuben Tasker (2) and Junior Khumone, clinching our spot as WINNERS of the competition and a place in the Crewe & Nantwich Finals after halfterm!

 

Brierley B reacted well to the loss in game one and followed it with a decent 1-1 draw against Monks Coppenhall in game two, with Ansley Wong grabbing a late equaliser for us. Game three was a cracker, as we just edged out Hungerford by a single goal from Ansley Wong. There were strong defensive performances in this one, with Kushal Gadde, Lyla Kosefobamu and Maka Moyo holding firm. Another narrow win vs Gainsborough followed in game four- we played some great netball in and around the opposition D, as Violet Careless-Cope, Bianka Farkasove-Xhekaj, Tamara Umwiza and Elissa Greenway passed the ball around quickly and accurately to allow Ansley Wong to add to his tally and seal the win. 1-0 wins were becoming the habit and we ended with back-to-back wins over Monks Coppenhall B and St Michaels- Ansley Wong with the goals in both games. Some excellent results were enough to see Brierley B finish the competition as RUNNERS UP- a tremendous achievement and much deserved.

 

A big thank you must go to Mrs Proudman for her support in training and running the teams on the night and thank you to the huge number of parents that came along to support the teams.

Our next football league fixture came on Thursday 26^th February, as we played Leighton Academy at the Cumberland Arena. We had not played a competitive game since before Christmas, so it was a tricky fixture to have after so long, as Leighton are normally a strong team. We started the game extremely well, with Devander Lisboa pressing from the front and Bence Hideg and Jacob Shephard providing plenty of energy behind him. This energy brought about a slick counter-attack, as good work from Jacob Shephard released Devander Lisboa, who produced a lovely finish past the goalkeeper. We were encouraged by our start and should have gone 2-0 up when Bence Hideg smashed the post when 1v1 with the goalkeeper. We were defending really well, with Sienna Boon, Eduard Ciocoi and Deniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz getting tight to their attackers and covering for eachother well. Leighton struck next, as a fierce shot was well-saved by Davood Azadmehr, but he was helpless to stop the follow up. After half time, we switched off and some poor marking saw Leighton go 2-1 ahead. However, we were soon level as some great work from Jacob Shephard saw him rifle a shot home from distance, giving the goalkeeper no chance. At 2-2 we were right in it and we were defending really well- Eduard Ciocoi was an absolute rock at the heart of defence and was deserved player of the match. When Eduard was beaten, Davood Azadmehr produced some excellent goalkeeping. We continued to push forward and had chances for Miki Slusarczyk and Devander Lisboa, but it was Leighton who put together a good passing move to score the 3^rd and decisive goal.

 

Overall this was a great effort and we deserved at least a draw from the game. We can be extremely proud of the effort and quality we showed, running a very good Leighton side so close. We can build on this, as there were some fantastic performances all over the pitch.

After our success at the Crewe Netball Competition, we went on to the Crewe & Nantwich Finals at Malbank School on Tuesday 3^rd March, where we faced the best schools from the area. The standard of the competition was very high, as we expected and we faced some excellent teams. In game one we lost out 4-0 to Sound B- it was a scrappy first game in which there were lots of errors from both teams, but Sound were much more direct with their passing and more clinical infront of goal. Game two saw us really struggle to keep the ball as we were clear 2^nd best to Sound A team for the first half. We regrouped at half time and came out fighting 2^nd half, but we were simply beaten by the better team. Our final fixture was against Pear Tree and we produced a much improved performance, registering our first goals of the finals, thanks to goals from Sienna Boon and Eduard Ciocoi. We were level at 2-2 at the break before losing our way slightly and giving up a couple of cheap goals 2^nd half. 

 

Overall we finished in 4^th place- we should be proud of the run to the finals and our performances, particularly in the Crewe Competition. We found the finals difficult, against 3 good teams, but there were stand-out performances from Reuben Tasker and Evie Burke- both of them didn't give up and defended with all of their heart.

On Wednesday 18^th March our Year 5/6 Boys Football team travelled over to Nantwich Town to represent the school in the Timperley Shield Competition against 9 other schools from the area. It was a really warm March day which made the games quite hard work physically, on top of playing over 80 minutes of football in total. After a recent good performance vs Leighton, we were looking forward to doing well in this tournament- however we started really poorly! We lost our first game when we switched off at a corner and then looked to have put things right in game two vs Gainsborough, as we cruised into a 2-goal lead thanks to a double from Devander Lisboa. However a crazy last five minutes saw us lose our discipline positionally and we threw away the lead to draw 2-2.

 

Our first win came in game three vs Beechwood, as we battled through missing some chances to score a well-worked goal, as neat passing between Jacob Shephard and Devander Lisboa saw Jacob score the winner. Defensively we were much better in this one and deserved our first win of the day. Sound were next up and we dropped our levels again, conceding with their only shot on target after missing a 1v1 at the other end. We then faced an uphill task in game five vs Acton, who were top of the table at that point. Devander Lisboa scored a lovely goal from a long throw from Bence Hideg and as we tried to see the game out, conceded a late equaliser... but a good point this was.

 

Goal of the day came in game seven, as Jacob Shephard smashed an absolute worldy of a free kick in from 30 yards out to win a tough match vs Weston. We rode our luck in this one, with Eduard Ciocoi making some excellent saves too. We kept our little unbeaten run going with a 0-0 draw vs Stapeley Broad Lane and then finished with our biggest win of the day, a 3-0 victory against Hungerford, thanks to a brace from Jacob Shephard and Devander Lisboa's 4^th goal of the day. 

 

Overall we finished in 5^th position- it was a shame we didnt get going from the off, as a top two finish was definitely there for us. Still, we did bounce back from a poor start and there were some excellent performances. Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz worked so hard defensively and never gave an opponent time on the ball, Davood Azadmehr made some good saves in goal and then did well as an emergency striker! Bence Hideg was unbelievable in the last 5/6 games and his long throws were a menace to the opposition. Miki Slusarczyk battled hard and slotted in well in both attack and defence, showing some good hold up play with his back to goal. Sienna Boon played some good passes and gave her all, despite not being 100% fit.

A group of girls represented Brierley in a Cricket competition on Thursday 21^st May. They had worked hard over a number of weeks afterschool to prepare and we were optimistic of doing well. In game one we faced Pear Tree and batting first, we scored 50 runs- our best partnership came between Sienna Boon and Ellie Mai Entwistle who scored 16 runs- but we felt we should've scored more. Our bowling was a mixed bag in this one- Sienna Boon and Evie Burke both conceded 1 run from their over and Raisha Barua picked up our only wicket. Pear Tree scored 275 to win by 15 runs.

 

Game two was against a strong Sound team. We batted first again and found runs difficult, but this was due to facing some excellent bowling. Marni Huskisson and Millie Wood top scored with a partnership of 10 as we ended on 33 runs. To our credit, we came out fighting with the ball, as at the halfway stage we had done really well to restrict Sound to 28 runs. We picked up wickets thanks to two stunning catches from Ella Wood, but two excellent batters at the end took the game well away from us, as we lost by 50 runs.

 

Our final fixture was against Wistaston Academy and this time we fielded first. Sienna opened the bowling, conceding just 2 runs from her over and this was backed up by a wicket-maiden from Lyla Kosefobamu and a good over from Ellie Mai Entwistle. Wistaston finished on 62 runs, which we felt was a gettable total. However, our first 3 overs cost us, as we struggle to beat the fielders with our shots and had just 2 runs on the board after 15 balls. Hollie Cooke and Ella Wood scored 12 in the 4^th over, before Sienna Boon and Millie Wood came out smashing the ball around to score a quickfire 34 runs. We were back in it, but fell just short, losing by 6 runs.

 

Overall we came away with 3 defeats, but the feeling was that we should have come away with 2 wins. There were some excellent individual moments in the competition and the girls stuck together as a team in search of the win they craved. A big thank you to Mr Draper for his help training the girls, to Miss Anderton for her help on the day and to the parents for supporting the girls at Crewe Vagrants.

The late Spring sunshine came just in time for our Sports Days, as we completed all 3 Sports Days in perfect conditions. We started off the week with our EYFS Sports Day on Monday 18^th May and the Nursery and Reception children got the week off to a flying start. They performed really well and showed how much practice they had put into each of their events. A big thank you to Miss Emery and the EYFS staff for their efforts in training up the children, and to the Year 6 House Captains who assisted with the running of the events on the day.

 

Friday 22^nd May saw the other year groups in action, beginning with the Year 4/5/6 Sports Day at the Cumberland Arena. Every child took part in 6 events; sprint, beanbag, relay, marathon (400m), javelin and long jump. Every event/ race that took part also saw the pupils competing for house points, with ANDERTON crowned as our Sports Day Winners, ahead of Delamere in 2^nd place and a tie for 3^rd between Jodrell and Tatton. Individually, there were some outstanding performances worthy of a special mention:

 

The afternoon session on Friday 22^nd May was for Years 1/2/3 Sports Day, which was also held at the Cumberland Arena. The pupils were fantastically behaved on the walking to/from and also whilst they were at the arena. They put on a great show for the large crowd, taking part in the sprint, egg and spoon and beanbag races. Thank you to the Year 6 House Captains who once again provided the organisational support on the day and were excellent role models to the younger pupils.

The final halfterm of the 2025/26 academic year began with the biggest event in the school sports calendar... Town Sports 2026. This began with the field events on Monday 15^th June at the Cumberland Arena and we had 18 athletes taking on Javelin, Long Jump and High Jump. We have always done pretty well on the field night and this year saw more success.

 

In the Javelin, Sienna Boon took 2^nd place in the Y6 Girls, Davood Azadmehr won the Y6 Boys, Deavander Lisboa took 3^rd place for Y5 Boys, Darcy Lindsay bagged 2^nd place in the Y4 Girls and Harrison Martin took 3^rd place for Y4 Boys.

 

The Long Jump proved to be another good area as we took a few top 3 finishes away with us. Evie Burke came 3^rd place for Y6 Girls, Jacob Shephard came 2^nd for Y6 Boys and Lyla Kosefobamu came 2^nd for the Y5 Girls.

 

High Jump is always the most tricky event as it is more technical than the others. We had a 3^rd place for Ellie-Mai Entwistle in the Y6 Girls event and then an unbelievable performance from Willow Haughton saw her bag 1^st place for the Y4 Girls.

 

Overall we finished as RUNNERS-UP in the Group C Field Events- well done to all of the team that took part!

The second part of Town Sports 2026 saw us travel to The Barony in Nantwich for the track events on Wednesday 17^th June. In front of a huge crowd, as always, we got off to a fantastic start, with McDarren Neba claiming 3^rd place in the Y3 Boys Hurdles and Willow Haughton got 2^nd place in the Y4 Girls Hurdles. We then had a sea of 4^th and 5^th placed finishes, meaning we had to wait a while for our next top 3 finish- Lyla Kosefobamu came 3^rd in the Y5 Girls Sprint and Evie Burke also came 3^rd in the Y6 Girls Sprint. 

 

Onto the beanbag races and we picked up our first WIN of the evening as Molly Hulse claimed 1^st in the Y3 Girls Beanbag. Devander Lisboa followed this up with a win in the Y5 Boys race- winning by a huge margin! Molly Hulse made it a great night personally, as she was then part of the Year 3 relay team who came in 1^st place, alongside Jessica Pirvu, Zuzanna Miklusiak and Dominion Adebanjo. 

 

Overall we finished in 6^th place on the track, however our Year 3 team finished as WINNERS in their group. When our track and field scores were combined, we finished in overall 5^th position, just missing out on promotion to Group B for 2027.

Our boys cricket team played in the Crewe & Nantwich Competition on Tuesday 30^th June, against 5 other schools from the area. We started with a fantastic 47-run win against Monks Coppenhall B. Pranav Gadde top scored with 23 runs, ably assisted by Eduard Ciocoi (13) and Davood Azadmehr (11), to score 93-1. Our bowling was excellent- Kushal Gadde and Davood Azadmehr only conceded 1 run each from their overs and there were wickets from Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz and Reuben Tasker. Monks finished on 46-2.

 

Game two saw us face Sound B and this time we bowled first. Devander Lisboa picked up our only wicket but there was good bowling from Kushal Gadde and Reuben Tasker too, as we restricted Sound to 52-1. The pick of our batters were Davood Azadmehr who hit 24 runs and Reuben Tasker who scored 18 runs, as they led us to a 51 run win, as we ended on 103-2.

 

We made it three wins from three, as we beat Pear Tree by 53 runs. Bowling first, Devander Lisboa picked up another wicket and there were good overs from Kelvin Nicol, Pranav Gadde and Jacob Burke-Hurley. Pear Tree could only manage a score of 47-1, meaning we had a good chance to win. Pranav Gadde and Eduard Ciocoi started us off with 34 runs from their two overs and Jacob Burke-Hurley and Davood Azadmehr managed the same score from their two overs! The game was pretty much done and a quick fire 18 from Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz sealed the win by 53 runs.

 

Game four saw us taste defeat, as we lost a crucial game against Monks Coppenhall A. Unfortunately, we served up our worst bowling performance of the tournament, allowing Monks to get a grip on the game early on, as they rallied to a score of 87-0. Some excellent bowling from Monks in reply killed off all hope, as after 3 overs we were 4-2 and chasing the game. We left ourselves too much to do, despite 20 runs from Kelvin Nicol and 10 from Harrison Martin. We ended on 53-5, a loss of 34 runs and a blow to our top 2 hopes.

 

Game five saw us still seeking the 4^th win which would see us take one of the two places on offer in the Cheshire County Finals. If in the previous game we werent at our best, in this one we gave our all against a fabulous Sound A team. Sounds were stronger in every department, with every player playing club cricket outside of school. Wickets fell regularly in our batting innings, with only really 26 runs from Davood Azadmehr as a highlight. We ended on 54 for the loss of 10 wickets. We knew the game was probably out of reach, so jsut hoped we could bowl well and we did, restricting Sound to 84-0. Eduard Ciocoi, Jacob Burke-Hurley and Harrison Martin were the pick of the bowlers.

 

Overall we narrowly missed out on a top 2 finish, coming 3^rd in a tournament played at a high standard. We nearly made it through- a tribute to how hard the team have worked at practices and how they have improved as cricketers. Thank you to the parents that helped transport to Vagrants, to Mr Draper for his help with cricket club and to Miss Anderton for her help on the day.

Monday 6^th July saw us enter a team of 12 pupils into the Year 3/4 Diamond Cricket Festival at Crewe Vagrants. The team was well prepped, with a number of them having taken part in eatra-curricular cricket clubs and also two players having played in the Y5/6 Competition earlier this year. 

 

The team played 5 matches in the festival and came away with three wins- against Monks Coppenhall A, Monks Coppenhall B and Stapeley Broad Lane. Our two losses were against Pebble Brook and Sound, both narrow defeats. The team played some excellent cricket on the day- the batting was explosive, they ran really hard and there were some great catches taken too.

 

Thank you to Mrs Roberts and all of the army of parents who came over to Vagrants to support the team.
