School Sports Competition Reports 2025/2026
Summer Term 2025:
Boys Cricket Competition @ Reaseheath College 20/05/2025
The first event of a busy Summer schedule was the Y5/6 Boys Cricket Competition at Reaseheath College on Tuesday 20th May. We were placed into a group with 3 schools- Wrenbury, Bridgemere and Audlem- with the top 2 qualifying for the semi-finals.
We opened up with a decent bowling and fielding performance to restrict Wrenbury to 268 runs. Pranav Gadde took our only wicket but there was also some good bowling from Eduard Ciocoi and Ibukun Fajemilo. We got ourselves into a good position with the bat, thanks to Ibuken Fajemilo (20) and David Chivu (14). A wobble with 3 overs to go saw us lose 2 quick wickets but Kelvin Nicol and Diego Lisboa saw us home with 30 runs from their two overs to win by 6 runs.
Game two was a thriller against Bridgemere! We batted first and batted well, scoring 287 runs- David Chivu top scored with 24 and Diego Lisboa and Pranav Gadde scored 25 as a pair. We needed to bowl well and to be honest, we gave away too many wides and no balls. There were wickets from Diego Lisboa, Eduard Ciocoi and Finley Allen though. The game ended up tied, as we were level on runs (287), wickets lost (3) and even boundaries! This meant we went to a 4-ball bowl off and sadly we lost out 1-0.
Our final group game was against Audlem and we found runs more difficult to come by, as we made 256 runs from our 8 overs. Kelvin Nicol top-scored with 20 runs, with Eduard Ciocoi scoring 10. We needed to bowl well and got the perfect start, with Diego Lisboa picking a wicket up with the first ball. Eduard Ciocoi took another wicket in the 3rd over and great bowling from Pranav Gadde and Jacob Burke-Hurley kept restricting Audlem. Sadly in the final over we conceded 20 runs and ended up losing by 8 runs.
This meant we finished 3rd place and agonisingly, just missed out on the semi finals. We played a friendly match against Berkeley to finish and they batted first to score 275 runs. We took 3 good wickets too against good opposition- Finley Allen, Diego Lisboa and Jacob Burke-Hurley with the wickets. In our batting innings we face some great bowling on our way to a score of 248- David Chivu again top scoring with 12 runs.
Overall the boys did really well- it was a shame to miss out on a semifinal place on a bowl off, but our luck deserted us. There were some great individual performances and they really stuck together as a team.
Thank you to Mr Coombs for coming with us to the competition, thank you to MR Taziker for his help with the boys cricket club on a Tuesday and thank you to all of the parents who came to support the team on the day.
Squad: Nick Guevarra (c), David Chivu, Ibukun Fajemilo, Diego Lisboa, Finley Allen, Eduard Ciocoi, Kelvin Nicol, Pranav Gadde and Jacob Burke-Hurley.
Girls Cricket Competition @ Wistaston Cricket Club 22/05/2025
On Thursday 22nd May we entered the Crewe & Nantwich Girls Cricket Competition at Wistaston Cricket Club. We faced three opponents- Sound & District, Wistaston Academy and Monks Coppenhall. For all of the girls, this was their first taste of competitive cricket and we opened with a game against Monks Coppenhall. We batted first and Maria Boros scored 16 to get us off to a decent start. Contributions from Tayah Huskisson (16) and Ella Wood (13) saw us reach a total of 285. Our bowling performance was excellent- there were wickets for Lexi Mai Ashbrook, Iris Carvalho and Tayah Huskisson, as we kept Monks at bay to win by 12 runs.
Buoyed by a great first win in their first game, the girls took on Wistaston Academy next. We struggled more with the bat this time around, only posting a score of 276- Sienna Boon top scoring with 20 runs, with nobody else really coming close to that number. We needed to bowl really well and to be fair we did. There were wickets from Keeley Cooper, Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj, Tayah Huskisson and a double from Sienna Boon in the final over. Still this wasn't quite enough, as we lost by just 6 runs!
Brought back to earth by the loss, we faced Sound who had won both of their games and boasted a few girls who play regularly. We batted first again and scored 245- not a huge score, but against very good bowling, this was a good total and we didn't lose a single wicket! Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj top scored with 12 runs. Our bowling was perhaps not quite at the level of the previous two games, however we still took wickets- Ella Wood took back-to-back caught and bowled and Tayah Huskisson bowled a maiden over, with Keeley Cooper only going for 2 runs from her over. We lost out by 19 runs in the end- a good effort against a top team.
Despite losing 2 out of 3 games, other results went our way and we ended up finishing as RUNNERS UP on points difference and now go on to represent Crewe & Nantwich in the Cheshire County Finals in July. This is an outstanding result for the girls and a special day they can look forward to being a part of. For a group of novices a few weeks ago, they have worked so hard with Mr Draper and myself in our after-school club and they have improved so much.
Thank you to Miss Anderton for her help on the day and to the parents who were there supporting the girls.
Squad: Evie Ollier (c), Ella Wood, Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj, Maria Boros, Tayah Huskisson, Marni Huskisson, Iris Carvalho, Keeley Cooper, Sienna Boon and Lexi Mai Ashbrook.
Timperley Shield Football Competition
Our Boys Football team took part in the Timperley Shield Competition on Thursday 5th June at Shavington Academy. The team had qualified for this competition due to our 2nd place finish in the Autumn league group stage. This meant we faced off against the top 10 teams in the Crewe & Nantwich area. Game one saw us handed a really tough start- Dingle are an excellent side and we struggled to get tight to our men in the first 5 or 6 minutes of the 10 minute game. We were better as the game went on, but the damage was done.
We bounced back with an excellent performance in game two, as we held Wistaston Academy to a draw. To a player, we were excellent- Eduard Ciocoi made some great saves when our defence was breached and the midfield and forward players worked their socks off to close down and try to spring our own attacks.
Game 3 saw us lose out to a good Highfields side- we actually played pretty well and were much more solid. A mistake saw us go a goal down and the game turned on a bit of bad luck, as good play from Jacob Shephard saw him play a great ball to Finley Allen. His neat pass was smashed goalwards by Lucas Scott Taylor, but his shot could only find the post- an inch to the right and it was 1-1. Frustratingly, Highfields went down the other end and then made it 2-0, eventually winning 3-0.
Our final fixture was against a Shavington side who had a similar record to ourselves after 3 matches. The game was very even and luck again deserted us infront of goal, as Finley Allen's firm shot when 1v1 was well saved and both Lucas Scott Taylor and Jacob Shephard had good chances too. A great finish from Shavington was just enough for them to take the win in the end.
Although this was a tough competition, the boys gave their all and stuck together. We had to battle and we found chances to be at a premium- however we didnt get much luck infront of goal on the day. Thank you to all of the parents who came to support the boys on the day.
Squad: Finley Allen (c), Lewis Malam, Diego Lisboa, Lucas Scott-Taylor, Devander Lisboa, Bence Hideg, Jacob Shephard and Eduard Ciocoi.
TOWN SPORTS 2025 - Field Events @ Cumberland Arena
On Monday 16th June we faced off against 11 other schools in the Group C field events- Javelin, Long Jump and High Jump were the three competitions we competed in. In the Javelin, we had success from Ibukun Olumuyiwa (1st- Y6 Girls), Sienna Boon (1st- Y5 Girls) and Ibukun Fajemilo (3rd- Y6 Boys). In the High Jump, Ellie Mai Entwistle scored 2nd place (Y5 Girls), whilst both Finley Allen (Y6 Boys) and Reuben Tasker (Y5 Boys) claimed 3rd placed finishes. Long Jump proved to be our most successful discipline, with 1st places from Lucas Scott Taylor (Y6 Boys), and Evie Burke (Y5 Girls). There were 3rd places for Lyla Kosefobamu (Y3/4 Girls) and Maria Boros (Y6 Girls). We had some excellent results in this competition and we finished as Group C Runners-Up!
TOWN SPORTS 2025 - Track Events @ The Barony
The track events took center stage on Wednesday 18th June as we focussed on Hurdles, Sprint, Beanbag and Relay. In the Hurdles we had a 1st place from Ellie Mai Entwistle (Y5 Girls) and then 2nd places for both Maria Craciun (Y4 Girls) and Jacob Shephard (Y5 Boys). In the Sprint races we had wins for Lyla Kosefobamu (Y4 Girls) and Greta Gregorova (Y6 Girls). We also had 3rd places for Mayowa Adeoye (Y4 Boys) and Folosade Olumuyiwa (Y3 Girls). After these two events we were doing really well, but we lost our way a little in the Beanbag races and the Relays- our only success came in what was probably the highlight of the night, as our Year 6 Girls team blew away the rest of the field to win- a superb performance from Tayah Huskisson, Maria Boros, Ibukun Olumuyiwa and Greta Gregorova. This also helped the Year 6 team to overall 3rd place on the track.
Overall we came in 5th place, despite having a really good year in terms of inidividual results and points gained overall- we have done not quite as well as this previously and been promoted to Group B! A huge well done goes to every child who took part in Town Sports and a big thank you to all of the parents and families who came to support the children on one or both nights! Thank you also to all of the staff for their support and help with the event.
Rounders Festival @ Malbank School
The penultimate competition of the school year was the Year 5/6 Rounders Festival at Malbank on Tuesday 1st July. We took a squad of 11 pupils over to Nantwich, with nearly all of them playing their first competitive games of Rounders. Our first match saw us face Audlem, who racked up a decent score of 7 from their batting innings, despite 3 outs coming from catches from Lucas Scott Taylor (2) and Jacob Shephard. Despite requiring a big score to win, we batted superbly well to score 9 rounders to win by 2! Ibukun Fajemilo scored 2.5, Leo Johnson 1.5, Lucas Scott Taylor 1.5, Diego Lisboa 1.5, Ella Wood 1 and Lauren Mavhura and Bovern Tazvinzwa both scored half-rounders.
Game two saw us come up against a good Pear Tree side. This time we batted first and scored a respectable 6 rounders. Ibukun Fajemilo scored 1.5, Jacob Shephard, Davood Azadmehr, Ella Wood and Lucas Scott Taylor scored 1 each and a half-rounder for Leo Jonhson. In reply, Pear Tree got off to a slow start, as we fielded really well and restricted their scoring to just 2.5 overall, meaning we won by 3.5 rounders.
Our final fixture saw us face Leighton and we got off to a good start thanks to Ella Wood's rounder and halves from Diego Lisboa, Lucas Scott Taylor and Jacob Shephard. The scoring then stalled a little and we could only add a rounder from Leo Johnson and a half from Davood Azadmehr to bring us to a total of 4. We needed to bowl and field really well and Leighton creeped their way up to our score with 7 balls remaining. Only a tremendous stop from Lauren Mavhura and some great fielding from both Sienna Boon and Evie Burke stopped Leighton from scoring and we dug in for a deserved draw 4-4.
Overall we came away unbeaten with two wins and a draw- a great result and we performed really well on the day. A big thank you to all of the parents and Mr Coombs that made the trip to Malbank and helped to transport the children.
Squad: Leo Johnson (c), Bovern Tazvinzwa, Ibukun Fajemilo, Lucas Scott Taylor, Lauren Mavhura, Ella Wood, Davood Azadmehr, Jacob Shephard, Evie Burke, Sienna Boon and Diego Lisboa.
Cheshire County Girls Cricket Finals @ Warrington Cricket Club
Brierley represented Crewe and Nantwich in the girls cricket finals on Wednesday 16th July at Warrington Cricket Club. We qualified for this on the back of coming Runners-Up in the Crewe & Nantwich Competition at the end of May. This team were a group of novices in the run up to the first competition, so to qualify for the County Finals was a major achievement. However the girls proved that this was no fluke as they were truly exceptional in Warrington! We played 4 matches, winning 3 of them and recorded the rare result of a tie in the 4th game! Normally this would have secured a place in the semi-finals, however luck was against us as we lost out on runs scored to finish 2nd in our group. The girls were incredible on the day and were cheered on by a number of parents and family members that made the journey to support them. We are very proud of them and they should be proud to now be known as the best Cricket team the school has produced! Well done to all of the squad: Evie Ollier (c), Sienna Boon, Iris Carvalho, Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj, Ella Wood, Keeley Cooper, Tayah Huskisson, Marni Huskisson, Maria Boros and Lexi Mai Ashbrook. Thank you also to Mr Draper and Miss Anderton for their help with training and preparing the girls for competition.
Autumn Term 2025/2026:
Y5/6 Hockey Competition @ Crewe Vagrants - Mon 29th September
The first competition of the calendar year saw two Hockey teams representing Brierley in the Hockey Competition. We have always traditionally been quite strong in hockey, with previous appearances in county finals. Brierley A put in another strong performance in this competition, winning 5 of their 7 matches, but agonisingly missed out on a top 2 place (which would have seen us qualify) by a single point. We played really well throughout the competition and one of our loses was probably deserved against a strong Shavington team. The other loss was the one that got away, as it was a tough battle against Monks Coppenhall but we had chances to win the game and then were really unlucky in the way we conceded the goal to see us lose out. Davood Azadmehr top-scored with 6 goals on the day and there was some excellent defending from Sienna Boon and Ellie Mai Entwistle.
Brierley B also performed really well, coming 5th in place with a record of 4 wins and 3 defeats- they lost to Shavington, Monks and Brierley A. After a slow start they started to work hard for eachother and scored some excellent goals- the highlight being an Ella Wood hat trick in a 4-0 win against Wistaston Academy. Eduard Ciocoi top-scored with 4 goals in an all-action performance. It was very pleasing to see some pupils who were slightly less confident in their hockey ability, come through with more confidence and proved they were a match for any opposition.
Well done to all that took part and thank you to Mrs Proudman for her help running a team. Thank you to the crowd of parents that came to support the teams too.
Brierley A: Davood Azadmehr, Sienna Boon, Ellie Mai Entwistle, Devander Lisboa, Bence Hideg.
Brierley B: Kushal Gadde, Eduard Ciocoi, Evie Burke, Ella Wood, Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj.
Y5/6 Tag Rugby Festival @ Crewe Vagrants - Wed 8th October
On Wednesday 8th October we took a squad of 10 pupils to play in the Y5/6 Tag Rugby Festival at Crewe Vagrants. We had an exciting squad, full of excellent runners, some great passers of the ball and some who simply love defending! Our first fixture saw us take on Highfields and we made a strong start with tries from Ella Wood and Mayowa Adeoye. A couple of knock-ons cost us a shot at victory, as Highfields fought back to draw 2-2.
Game two saw us win a scrappy game against Wistaston Academy. This was probably our poorest performance of the day, as our passing and decision making wasn't as good, but a try from Devander Lisboa was just enough for us to collect our first victory. We then bounced back really well, as we put in an incredible performance to beat a very strong Berkeley side 4-2. This was very nearly the perfect performance, as we defended like lions and we kept being patient with the ball until the gaps opened up and then we were clinical. Kacper Pakiela and Davood Azadmehr got us two tries ahead and then further tries from Devander Lisboa and Bence Hideg sealed a great win.
Our fourth fixture was an end-to-end game against Willaston. The game was frantic, with mistakes and great play from both teams. We fell behind and had to dig in at times, before showing great spirit to fight back and then draw level by the end of the game. Try scorers were Kacper Pakiela, Devander Lisboa and Evie Burke in a 3-3 draw. Our final fixture of the afternoon saw our ruthless side shine through, as we beat Shavington 8-2. It was a close game early on until we went up a gear and blew away the opposition. Try scorers in this one were Devander Lisboa (3), Bence Hideg, Reuben Tasker, Kacper Pakiela, Mayowa Adeoye and Sienna Boon.
Overall we showed great strength to come away unbeaten with 3 wins and 2 draws. Some of the performances were incredible and to come away with victories against schools who had pupils who play rugby for clubs out of school, shows how well we did. A big thank you to Miss Anderton and the huge number of parents who came to support the team.
Squad: Reuben Tasker (c), Sienna Boon, Evie Burke, Davood Azadmehr, Bence Hideg, Devander Lisboa, Mayowa Adeoye, Evie Burke, Ella Wood, Ellie-Mai Entwistle.
FA Kids Cup Football Competition @ Soccer Centre - Thursday 6th November 2025
Our first football of the new school year came in the form of the FA Kids Cup, where we were pitted in a league of 7 schools from all across Cheshire. We were a little unsure of what to expect from a new team, which was very heavy on attackers and light in the defensive department! Despite this fact, we started with 3 0-0 draws (!) against The Quinta, Pebble Brook and Darnhall. The performances were excellent- in particular the first game against a very good Quinta side who went on to top the group. We were very strong at the back, with new skipper Jacob Shephard leading by example from centre-back and Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz, Sienna Boon and Olaf Zajkowski performing really well in the full back roles. In goal, Davood Azadmehr made 3 or 4 wonderful saves, including a brilliant save when 1v1 and tipping a rasping shot over the bar. At the other end, Devander Lisboa and Bence Hideg worked hard in the midfield and did their best to slot in Miki Slusarczyk, who's pace and work rate was causing problems for the opposition. Game 3 vs Darnhall was perhaps a missed opportunity for a win, as we gave away 2 really sloppy goals early in the game. Our response was fantastic, as Jacob Shephard scored an unbelievable solo goal and then Miki Slusarczyk slotted home when sent through by Bence HIdeg- but we couldnt find a winner.
Our final 3 games saw us play back-to-back with no break inbetween. This proved to be difficult and we faded slightly in games 4 and 5- albeit against good opposition who deserved their wins. Our final fixture was an absolute cracker against Acton. It had it all- goalmouth scrambles, shots smashing the woodwork, some quality goalkeeping from both keepers and some missed chances. We deserved more from this one, as Jacob Shephard hit the bar and only a top save denied Devander Lisboa. Sadly we were hit with a scrappy goal which was the final kick of the game.
Overall though, this was a really positive start for a new team. We will develop and get stronger as the season goes on and I was particularly pleased with how hard they worked and how they rotated positions (with some playing in positions for the first time). A big thank you to the parents who helped to transport and supported the team and to Mrs Proudman for her assistance with the team.
Crewe Dodgeball Festival @ Sir William Stanier School - Wednesday 12th November 2025
We entered 3 teams into the Dodgeball festival at SWS, which was a great opportunity to give lots of pupils in Year 5/6 the opportunity to represent the school in a sports competition for the first time. Brierley A finished with a fantastic record from their 9 fixtures, winning 7 games, drawing 1 and losing 1 game which was actually to our own Brierley B team. Brierley B had a perfect record going into their final fixture, having 8 wins from 8 games, however they narrowly lost their final game by just two points to Mablins Lane. Brierley C had a tougher afternoon, however they played some excellent stuff and went on to win 3 of their 9 fixtures, the highlight being a narrow win over Monks Coppenhall A. All three teams showed our strength as a school in Dodgeball and all three can be very proud of their performances. A big thank you to the hoards of parents and family members that came up to SWS to support the team and thank you to both Mr Coombs and his son Jake who both led one of the teams on the night.
Brierley A: Reuben Tasker (c), Ellie Mai Entwistle, Bence Hideg, Jacob Burke-Hurley, Sienna Boon, Davood Azadmehr.
Brierley B: Ansley Wong (c), Lyla Kosefobamu, Elissa Greenway, Oliver Copeland, Devander Lisboa, Lindon Walker, Kushal Gadde.
Brierley C: Junior Khumone (c), Violet Carless-Cope, Olaf Zajkowski, Luke Yeates, Hollie Cooke, Iaan Sanu, Pranav Gadde.
Crewe Autumn Football League vs Beechwood - Monday 17th November 2025
Our first league fixture of the year came at the Cumberland against our old friends Beechwood. We started the game with the majority of the play, with Jacob Shephard winning the ball high up the pitch and then fired home the first goal of the game from distance. Bence Hideg scored his first goal for Brierley with a well-taken finish before Miki Slusarczyk was unlucky to have handled before smashing the ball past the keeper. After this we started to take too many touches of the ball and didn't link up well with eachother. Defensively, we remained strong, with Sienna Boon and Olaf Zajkowski doing excellent jobs and Davood Azadmehr dealt well with any shot s on target. After half time we spoke about playing the simple pass and moving off the ball. Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz lashed home his first goal for Brierley to make it 3-0 and then Devander Lisboa helped himself to a brace- the second came from a peach of a pass from Jacob Shephard which split the defence. Beechwood grabbed a deserved consolation goal late on, but we got the win and enjoyed a much better second half performance. Thanks to the parents for their support and to Mrs Proudman for helping out with the team.
Squad: Jacob Shephard (c), Bence Hideg, Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz, Olaf Zajkowski, Sienna Boon, Devander Lisboa, Miki Slusarczyk and Davood Azadmehr.
Girls' Football Competition @ Soccer Centre - Thursday 20th November 2025
Our first football fixtures for our girl team came on a chilly November morning, We were faced with a tough group containing 6 schools from across Cheshire. Our opening fixture against Haslington saw us fall behind early on, but we responded well and levelled the game thanks to a fantastic bit of improvisation from Ella Wood, who backheeled the ball into the goal from close range. We then took the lead, as Evie Burke's shot was too hot to handle and found the corner of the goal. We looked to be heading for a win, but a contentious decision saw us switch off and allow Haslington to equalise. Game two saw us take the lead against a strong Dingle side- Sienna Boon stroking the ball home from close range. We battled hard, but a couple of soft goals saw Dingle reverse the scoreline and come away with a 2-1 win. Sadly this theme came to haunt us- game 3 saw the same pattern- we played really well and a goal from Evie Burke put us in control until naive defending saw us surrender our advantage and we lost 2-1. Game 4 was perhaps the only game we were outplayed in, as we struggled to contain a good Davenham team. However, we kept plugging away and got our rewards early on against Quinta with a goal from Sienna Boon after some quick-thinking from Evie Burke. Again though, we made a couple of poor mistakes and were punished by good opposition. Our final game saw us continue to show great spirit and we gave Monks Coppenhall a good game in a 2-0 loss.
Overall it was our inexperience that cost us- most of the other schools had at least 2/3 girls who played for teams outside of school and that extra edge was maybe the difference. We came away scoring a good number of high quality goals and we never stopped working hard for eachother- which we can be really proud of. It was a good experience for the girls and with a little bit of luck they would've come away with 2 or 3 wins today.
Squad: Sienna Boon (c), Ellie Mai Entwistle, Evie Burke, Ella Wood, Bianka Farkasova-Xhekaj, Maria Craciun, Lyla Kosefobamu, Maka Moyo.
Sports Hall Athletics Competition @ SWS - Wednesday 26th November 2025
The first 'big' event of the year came in the form of the Sports Hall Athletics Competition and we had 39 pupils take part. We faced Monks Coppenhall, Hungerford and Beechwood in a range of different running, jumping and throwing events. Each child had trained for 3 sessions leading up to the event and had focussed on their specific events in order to be ready for the big day. On the track we had lots of 2nd placed finishes (12 out of 24 races!) and our only 1st place came in the Y3/4 Boys 2x1-lap relay with RIchard Adebanjo and Archie Blackshaw running tremendously. In the field we did well too, contributing to our overall 2nd place finishes in both the Y5/6 and Y3/4 competitions. The only field results we had were for the Javelin and this proved to be fruitful for us. Grace Gale, Richard Adebanjo, Sienna Boon, Daniel Fiszer-Skuratowicz and Reuben Tasker all achieved 1st places, with 2nd places going to Millie Wood, Shekinah Benzah, Carter Readdin and Maka Moyo. Well done to all of the pupils who took part and a special thank you to our Brierley staff who helped to train the children and helped out at the competition.
