Welcome to Little Bears
At Little Bears Nursery, we provide a warm, happy and nurturing environment for children aged 3–4 years, where children can feel safe, valued and excited about learning. For many children, Little Bears is the beginning of their Brierley journey. We want every child to feel that they belong from the moment they arrive.
Our carefully planned, play-based curriculum is responsive to the needs, interests and starting points of our children. Learning happens through play, exploration, conversation, stories, practical experiences and high-quality adult interactions.
We want children to be curious, confident and enthusiastic learners. Our days are filled with purposeful play, hands-on experiences and opportunities to explore the world around us. We encourage our Little Bears to become increasingly independent, make choices, develop their own ideas and feel proud of what they achieve.

Caring, Experienced Staff
Our friendly and experienced Nursery team, which includes a qualified teacher, works closely with our Reception staff and the wider Brierley team. We get to know every child as an individual and work closely with families to make sure children feel happy, secure and ready to learn.
Our Nursery and Reception classes are located within the same building, giving our children lots of opportunities to become familiar with the Reception environment, staff and routines before they start school. This helps make the transition into Reception as happy and seamless as possible.
Learning Indoors and Outdoors
Our classroom is much more than simply a space. It is somewhere children feel safe, build relationships, communicate, explore and develop independence. We carefully plan our environment and resources to encourage curiosity, creativity and purposeful play. We are also fortunate to have a large outdoor area, which forms an important part of our learning environment. Children spend time outside every day, exploring nature, developing physically, problem-solving, working together and following their curiosity.
Our Little Bears have planted and grown vegetables, watched caterpillars transform into butterflies, explored the natural world and created all sorts of wonderful things in our mud kitchen! We believe that some of the best learning happens when children are exploring, investigating and sometimes getting a little messy.
At a Glance
Children can attend morning sessions, afternoon sessions or full days.
Morning: 8:30am – 11:40am
Afternoon: 12:20pm – 3:20pm
Full Day: 8:40am – 3:20pm
Children staying for the full day may bring a packed lunch or have a school lunch, depending on their arrangements and eligibility. More detailed information about sessions, funding, lunches and what to bring can be found on our Parent Information page.
Working With Families
Parents and carers are children's first educators, and we believe children benefit most when home and Nursery work together. We aim to build strong relationships with our families and keep you informed about your child's learning and experiences through parents' evenings, School Spider communications, Term on a Page newsletters, our social media page and our Story and Rhyme sessions. There will also always be a friendly member of staff available at the beginning or end of the session if you have a question or something you would like us to know.
Come and Meet Our Little Bears
We warmly encourage parents, carers and children to visit us before starting Nursery. It is a lovely opportunity for your child to explore their new surroundings, meet our staff and begin to feel comfortable in the environment. It also gives families the chance to ask questions and find out more about life at Little Bears.
