Swimming
This year we were very excited to welcome 'Pools for Schools' to Brierley. We had our very own on site heated swimming pool with teaching staff provided by sports coaching north west and the children from year 2-6 were able to take part in swimming lessons. We look forward to welcoming them back next year.
The appropriate swim kit is as follows:
-
-
- For boys, swimming shorts that finish before the knee.
- For girls, swimming costumes only. Bikinis/Tankinis are not to be worn during school swimming lessons.
- A towel
- Children may wear goggle, but parents must send a permission letter to the class teacher.
-
During their swimming lessons, children are required to wear swimming caps. This helps to keep the pool cleaner for longer and also helps to keep their hair dry. If your child has a cap at home, they may bring it to wear. If your child has long hair, please make sure they come to school with a low ponytail on their swimming day - it makes putting swimming caps on a lot easier!
We are required to publish how many pupils within our Year Six cohort are meeting the National Curriculum requirement to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres, use a range of strokes effectively and perform self-rescue in different water-based situations. For the academic year 2022/23, we had 14 pupils out of 31 (45%) hit this target.
