At Brierley Primary School, we believe that every child should have the opportunity to share their views, influence decisions and help shape our school community. Why Are Pupil Governors Important?
At Brierley, we want our children to know that their opinions matter. Our Pupil Governors help school leaders understand what children enjoy about school, what improvements they would like to see and how we can continue to make Brierley the best possible place to learn. They provide valuable pupil voice, contribute to school improvement discussions and help ensure that decisions are informed by the views and experiences of our children. This helps children develop confidence, leadership skills and a sense of responsibility whilst ensuring pupil voice remains at the heart of decision-making.

Our Pupil Governors are elected by their peers and proudly represent the views, experiences and ideas of pupils across the school. Throughout the year they demonstrate leadership, responsibility and a commitment to making Brierley even better for everyone.
What Have Our Pupil Governors Achieved?
Over the last academic year, our Pupil Governors have made a significant contribution to school life.
Promoting Safeguarding
Keeping children safe is one of the most important aspects of the Pupil Governor role.
Over the year, Pupil Governors have:
Updated our child-friendly safeguarding policy.
Met with the school's safeguarding governor to discuss how safe children feel in school.
Contributed to safeguarding discussions and case studies.
Shared children's views on safety and wellbeing.
Promoted the importance of speaking to a trusted adult about worries or concerns.
Through these discussions, Pupil Governors demonstrated an excellent understanding of how children can access support and the importance of reporting concerns to keep everyone safe.
Championing Wellbeing
Our Pupil Governors play a key role in ensuring that children's wellbeing remains a priority. They helped plan and evaluate our successful Spotlight on Wellbeing Week, suggesting activities for children across the school and gathering feedback afterwards. Their ideas have helped shape future wellbeing initiatives and ensure that children feel happy, supported and listened to. Pupil Governors consistently promote the message that everyone deserves to feel included, respected and valued at Brierley.
Supporting School Improvement
Throughout the year, Pupil Governors have contributed valuable pupil voice on a range of important areas, including:
Golden Time activities.
Wellbeing initiatives.
School events and enrichment opportunities.
Christmas challenges and community activities.

These discussions help school leaders understand what matters most to children and support ongoing school improvement.
Building Community
Our Pupil Governors have helped strengthen our sense of community by:
Supporting the launch of the school's Poppy Appeal.
Organising and promoting activities that bring year groups together.
Helping to create shared Christmas experiences across the school.
Welcoming visitors and representing Brierley during events, including a visit from Crewe Alexandra Football Club.
Their work helps create a strong sense of belonging and promotes positive relationships throughout the school community.
