Every child deserves the best possible start in life, along with the support needed to help them reach their full potential. Your child is at a crucial stage in their development, and research shows that children learn more rapidly in the first seven years of life than at any other time. It is therefore essential that they are given every opportunity to fulfil this potential. As a parent, you play a vitally important role. At Little Bears, we aim to play our part by providing a wide range of experiences and activities designed to support and enhance your child’s individual development.

Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage

We adhere to the ‘Statutory Framework of the EYFS’ and the four guiding principles that shape practice within Early Years settings:

• Every child is a unique child, who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured.
• Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;
• Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents/ carers;
• Children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates.

Our curriculum is based on the seven areas of learning and development. The first three areas are known as the prime areas and are particularly important for early learning and for building positive relationships. The three prime areas are:

Communication and Language – Listening Attention and Understanding and Speaking;

Physical Development – Gross Motor skills and Fine motor skills;

Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Self regulation, Managing self and Building relationships

The remaining four areas of learning are referred to as specific areas. These areas support the development of essential skills and knowledge that enable children to participate successfully in society. The specific areas are:

Literacy – Comprehension, Word reading and Writing;

Mathematics – Number and Numerical patterns;

Understanding the World – Past and Present, People, Culture and Communities and The Natural World;

Expressive Arts and Design – Creating with Materials and Being Imaginative and Expressive.

Our classroom is more than just a space – it is a place where children feel safe, build relationships, and express themselves. It is carefully planned to reflect their needs and interests and is filled with high‑quality resources that spark curiosity and promote independence.
