PE Days

At Brierley Primary School, we believe that Physical Education is a core subject, just like English, Mathematics and Science. PE plays a vital role in supporting children's physical development, mental wellbeing, confidence, resilience and teamwork skills. Through high-quality PE lessons, children learn how to lead healthy, active lifestyles while developing important values such as determination, respect and cooperation.

You may have noticed that many of our year groups have several PE sessions each week. This is intentional. We are committed to ensuring that children have regular opportunities to be active, develop fundamental movement skills and participate in a wide range of sports and physical activities. Additional sessions also support concentration, behaviour, emotional wellbeing and readiness to learn in the classroom.

Research consistently shows that active children are happier, healthier and better able to engage in learning. By increasing the amount of physical activity across the week, we are helping our pupils to build lifelong healthy habits while ensuring they receive the full PE curriculum entitlement.

To help make the most of every PE session, it is essential that children come to school in the correct PE kit on their designated PE days. Arriving in the correct uniform means children can participate safely and confidently from the start of the lesson, without missing valuable learning time. Appropriate PE clothing also helps children move comfortably, practise new skills effectively and stay safe during physical activities.
